Baseball:

What are the chances a baseball program could be held scoreless for 10 consecutive innings in a CIF-SS Division 2 semifinal round game and still win?

If you’re Etiwanda, apparently, they’re pretty good.

Brady Ebel and Yahir Ramirez teamed up to shut out Palos Verdes, and the Eagles scored five runs in the top of the 11th inning to claim a 5-0 victory.

Garren Rizzo provided the Sea Kings with seven scoreless innings on three hits.

Rizzo walked three and struck out 10.

Jack O’Connor would get the loss, allowing five runs on five hits and three walks over his 3 1/3 innings of work.

Austen Roellig opened the top of the 11th with a double.

With one out, Ebel was intentionally walked, and Mike Harrison singled to load the bases.

Freddie Capacete singled home Roellig for a 1-0 lead.

Tyler Shigenaka and Kaedon Mas both drew walks with the bases loaded to score Ebel and Harrison, respectively.

Tyler McEvoy’s sac fly plated Capacete to extend the EHS lead to 4-0.

After Parker Sobiesiak walked, the guy who started the inning, Austen Roellig, walked to score Shigenaka.

And Yahir Ramirez would close the door in the bottom of the 11th for the win.

Ebel went seven scoreless innings and scattered six hits.

The Eagles freshman walked one and struck out six PVHS batters.

Ramirez would go the final four innings without allowing a run and gave up just two hits.

Ramirez walked one and struck out one.

Grant Govel and Luke Martoccia had two singles apiece to account for half of the Sea Kings eight hits.

Offensively, Armando Briseno singled and doubled.

Austen Roellig walked, doubled, scored and had an RBI.

Brady Ebel walked twice, singled and scored.

Mike Harrison walked, singled and scored.

Freddie Capacete singled twice, scored and had one RBI.

Tyler Shigenaka walked, singled, had one RBI and scored one run.

The game’s most important stat, at least to this writer, is that two Etiwanda pitchers combined to hand out just one free pass apiece, while three members of the Palos Verdes staff collectively walked eight Eagles’ batters.

Up next: EHS will face off with Torrance in this weekend’s D-2 title game.

The Tartars (25-5-1) defeated Maranatha, 2-1, on a walk-off error.
