Thomas Adair’s Arm & Ricky Ahumada’s Bat Play Key Role in Torrance’s 5-1 Victory at RCHS in CIF-SS Division 2 Quarterfinal

Torrance scored three times in the top of the second inning and that was more than enough run support for Thomas Adair, Noah McMinn and Corey Nunez.

The Tartars earned their spot in Tuesday’s D-2 semifinal thanks to a 5-1 road victory at Rancho Cucamonga.

Thomas Adair went four scoreless innings and allowed four hits to earn the win.

Adair walked three and struck out four RCHS batters.

Noah McMinn and Corey Nunez would combine to get the final nine outs and allowed just one run.

Jacob McCombs had three of the Cougars’ seven hits, including a double and one RBI.

Tate Shimao walked twice, singled and scored.

Wilson Dunn had a pair of singles for RCHS, and Derek Almeda singled once in the loss.

Dakota Gray got the loss, but all three runs charged to him were unearned.

Gray went 5 2/3 innings and allowed six hits, walked three and struck out five Torrance batters.

The Tartars got to Tate Shimao for two runs on two hits in his one inning of work.

Shimao walked three and fanned two.

Ricky Ahumada’s three-run, inside-the-park home run gave Torrance a 3-0 lead.

Angel Gonzalez went 2-for-4 and scored one run.

Matthew Chavez singled, scored and had an RBI.

Nate Torres, Corey Nunez and Brock Mayer walked and had one single apiece.

Grant Bruers walked twice, scored and had an RBI.

Nikko Remigio walked and scored in Friday’s win.
