Baseball:
Malibu needed and got a terrific outing from Trevor Nickerson in Friday’s first round of the CIF-SS Division 5 playoffs.
Nickerson threw a three-hit shutout in a 3-0 victory at Marshall Fundamental.
He didn’t issue a walk, struck out seven, and the Sharks junior finished what he started in 91 pitches.
Wes Pendleton doubled and Travis Delgado and Conrad Hunsiker singled to account for the Marshall offense.
Travis Delgado suffered his only loss of the season, despite allowing just one earned run in 6 1/3 innings.
Delgado scattered five hits, walked two, and got 14 of his 19 outs via strikeout.
Three errors cost the Mission Valley League champs two runs in Friday’s loss.
Travis Kies went 2-for-2, with a walk and an RBI.
Finn Kelly doubled and scored.
Garrett Button singled twice and scored.
Justin Lipinski walked, scored and had an RBI in the win.
