Baseball:
Monrovia got one run in the bottom of the first inning in the CIF-SS Division 3 opener.
Andrew Primucci, Donvan Lorenzini and Tyler Mitchell made that stand up, as the Wildcats defeated visiting Crespi, 1-0, on Friday.
Primucci went 4 1/3 innings, allowing three hits, walked two and fanned three Celts’ batters.
Lorenzini provided 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing two hits, walking one and striking out one.
And Mitchell retired the side in the top of the seventh to earn the save.
Ethan Kodama singled twice, Isaiah Magdaleno doubled and Nick Grajeda and Diego Velasquez had one base hit apiece to account for the Celts offense.
Velasquez got the loss, despite going four innings and allowing just one run on four hits.
He walked two and fanned five Monrovia batters.
Ryan Oliva singled in the first and scored on a Shane Peterson base hit.
Jack Zinn, Anthony Chiovare and Tyler Mitchell had one hit apiece in Friday’s win.
Up next: Monrovia will make the 119-mile trek to No. 1 seeded La Quinta on Tuesday.
The Blackhawks (22-6) shut out Woodcrest Christian, 6-0, on Friday afternoon.
