Not too many saw this one coming, including this writer.
Paloma Valley made the 60-mile drive from Menifee, pounded out 15 hits, and defeated Northview, 13-4, in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs.
The Wildcats trailed the Valle Vista League champs, 3-2, as they grabbed their bats in the top of the fourth inning.
PVHS, however, would get a pair of runs in the fourth, six in the fifth and three more in the sixth inning to pull away from the Vikings.
Sal Batres got roughed up for nine runs (eight earned) on 12 hits over his 4 2/3 innings.
Batres walked one and fanned five.
Andrew Granados surrendered four runs (one earned) on three hits in 2 1/3 innings of work.
He walked one and struck out three.
Adrian Vento walked, singled twice, scored three runs and drove in a game-high four runs for Paloma Valley.
RJ Holmes singled, doubled and had three RBIs.
Isaiah Alcala singled twice and scored.
Ayden Harrison singled, doubled, had an RBI and scored a pair of runs.
Joey Davis singled twice and scored two runs.
Kaden Miller went 2-for-4, with two runs and a pair of RBIs.
Stephen Gallegos also had two hits, scored twice and drove in one run.
Lincoln Klein went 2 2/3 innings for the Wildcats and allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits.
Klein walked two and fanned one.
Chapman Weber would go 4 1/3 innings and surrendered just one run on five hits.
Weber walked three and struck out five NHS batters.
Ivan Barragan had a big day, going 4-for-4, with two runs and an RBI.
Diego Frey walked twice, had two singles and scored.
Dean Curley tripled and scored.
Ken Rodriguez and Gilbert Lopez singled and had one RBI apiece.
Moses Medrano walked and singled, Evan Burns walked twice and Matt Salgado singled for NHS.
