Baseball:

And that’s why they play the game.

In the first round of the CIF-SS Division 2 playoffs, Crescenta Valley shocked most of the SGV with Thursday’s 2-0 victory at South Hills.

The Falcons entered the game 15-12 and finished fourth in the Pacific League, while South Hills had more wins (23) than any SGV area program and had just wrapped up a perfect 10-0 Hacienda League title run.

But Jameson Ferraro was nails.

Ferraro tossed a two-hit shutout.

Ferraro didn’t issue a walked and struck out three SHHS batters.

The Falcons senior needed 80 pitches to finish what he started.

Marcos Rosales doubled and Andrew Ramirez singled to account for the Huskies offense.

CV got a pair of runs off Matt Lorenzano in the top of the fourth inning.

After Luke Steele singled and Ferraro doubled, Kris McCollum doubled them in for the game’s only runs.

Lorenzano went four innings and allowed four hits, didn’t walk anyone and struck out five Crescenta Valley batters.

Sterling Patick went three scoreless and hitless innings for South Hills.

Patick walked two and fanned four.
