Baseball:
Nooooooooooooooooooo!
Charter Oak’s Anthony Vasquez was just two outs away from tossing a perfect game on Friday.
A seventh-inning error, by a COHS infielder, however, cost Vasquez a shot at perfection.
But the Chargers’ junior shook off any frustation and settled for a no-hitter in a 6-0 Valle Vista League victory at Diamond Ranch.
Vasquez didn’t issue a walk, and the COHS right-hander got 17 of his 21 outs via strikeout.
Of his 85 pitches, 62 were strikes.
Benny Aquino got the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) on six hits.
Aquino went five innings, walked four and fanned three.
Vasquez also contributed at the plate.
He walked, singled, doubled, scored and had an RBI.
Chris Gonzalez walked, singled twice and drove in a pair of runs.
Evan Avitia walked twice and scored.
Diego Ortiz went 2-for-2, with a pair of RBIs and he scored one run.
Trevor Dultz and Nathan Arevalos walked and scored once each.
Charter Oak enters the final week tied for second in the VVL with San Dimas.
If the Chargers were to sweep the two-game series with first-place Northview, NHS, COHS and SDHS would share the league championship.
