Baseball:
Chartr Oak completed the two-game, Valle Vista League sweep of West Covina on Friday.
But the Bulldogs certainly put up a fight this week.
COHS shut out WCHS, 2-0, on Wednesday.
And on Friday, the Chargers edged the visiting Bulldogs, 2-1, thanks to Anthony Vasquez.
Vasquez went the distance, allowing one run on three hits.
He walked two and fanned four West Covina batters.
Jacob Villagas singled and drove in a fifth-inning run.
Steven De Luna walked, singled and scored.
Austin Nguyen’s double was the game’s lone extra-base hit.
Adrian Flores went the first 4 1/3 innings for WCHS, and allowe an unearned run.
Flores didn’t surrender a hit, walked one and fanned one COHS batter.
Edwin Segovia was charged with the loss after allowing an unearned run on two hits.
Segovia did not issue a walk and struck out one.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Diego Ortiz got the Chargers even as his sac fly scored Nathan Arevalos.
COHS would win the game on a pair of seventh-inning errors.
Samuel Morales and Ezekial Escalera had one single apiece to account for the Chargers’ offense.
Up next: WCHS will host Pomona (7-9) on Wednesday in a nonleague game, and COHS will host winless Diamond Ranch (0-13) in a VVL contest.
