Baseball:
After three weeks away from Valle Vista League competition, and a 1-4 record over that stretch, Charter Oak headed to West Covina High School on Wednesday.
And for all intents and purposes, Evan Avita put the Chargers on his back.
Avitia went six scoreless innings and scattered five hits in a 2-0 victory.
Avitia didn’t issue a walk and struck out 11 WCHS batters.
Alek Gavaghan provided a perfect seventh inning of relief, including a strikeout to earn the save.
Jacob Patino singled twice, while Edwin Segovia, Tony Macon and Victor Mendoza collected one hit apiece for the Bulldogs.
Evan Buhac was stuck with the loss.
Buhac was charged with two runs on four hits over his 5 1/3 innings.
Buhac walked one and struck out three Charter Oak batters.
Chris Gonzalez tripled and scored.
Alejandro Blanquet singled twice and drove in a run.
Anthony Vasquez singled twice and Ezekial Escalera had one base hit for the Chargers.
Daniel Hirota scored one run.
Up next: WCHS will travel to COHS on Friday to complete their two-game, VVL series.
