Baseball:
Bonita went toe-to-toe with Mater Dei on Saturday night.
And throughout 11 innings, and despite dropping a 3-2 decision, the Bearcats gained some valuable regular-season experience against the Monarchs.
Bonita got two runs in the top of the third inning, and took a 2-0 lead.
Mater Dei, though, held the Bearcats scoreless for the final eight innings of Saturday’s showdown.
Jake Keiffer was credited with the win after two scoreless innings of relief.
Bryan Bradshaw and Jared Brunk walked, singled and scored.
Luke Mistone and Daniel Munoz both went 2-for-4 in the loss.
JT Fenton and Garrett Patterson had one hit apiece.
Justin Santiago had a really solid outing for Bonita.
Santiago went six innings, and allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits.
He walked four and struck out 11 Mater Dei batters.
Camden Farina got the loss, allowing one run on one hit over 4 2/ innings.
Farina walked a pair and fanned five.
Derek Gonzales singled three times and scored.
Braden Ruiz and than Hedges singled and drove in a run apiece.
Gavin Williams drove in the game-winning run on a sac fly in the bottom of the 11th inning.
Up next: Bonita travels to Glendora on Tuesday for the first of two next week with the Tartans.
GHS and BHS are tied for first place in the Palomares League.
