Boys Basketball:
Damien won its 29th game of the season on Thursday.
The Spartans got a balanced offensive effort in a 66-56 victory over JSerra in the second round of the CIF State Division 1 playoffs.
All five of Damien’s starters had eight points or more.
JSerra’s Robert Diaz hit five 3-pointers and had a game-high 34 points.
The Lions held a 25-24 lead at the break, but the Spartans had a 42-31 advantage in the second half.
RJ Smith led the way with 22 points.
Spivey Word chipped in with 13 points, and Kaleb Smith contributed 12 points in the win.
Up next: Damien will host Scripps Ranch on Saturday night.
The Falcons (24-6) defeated Sierra Pacific, 56-52, on Thursday.
The tip is set for 6.
