Boys Basketball:
It had been 10 days since Damien last played.
The Spartans finished CIF-SS Open Division Pool Play 1-2, including consecutive losses to Centennial Corona and Bishop Montgomery.
Damien, though, opened CIF State Division 1 play with an 81-50 victory over Mission Hills.
Spivey Word and RJ Smith both contributed 19 points each.
Jimmy Oladokun provided 18 points in the win.
And Kaleb Smith finished with 13 points for the Spartans.
Up next: Damien will host JSerra on Thursday.
The Lions (21-10) edged Fairfax, 70-68, on Tuesday.
The tip is set for 6.
