Girls Athlete of the Week:
Perhaps the only thing that makes La Salle coach Scott Wiard more happy than winning the first CIF-SS girls basketball championship in school history, is the fact that the overwhelming core of his program are a talented group of underclassmen (or women).
The Lancers earned the CIF-SS Division 3AA championship on Saturday night at Cerritos.
It was their 19th consecutive victory.
And while every player in a La Salle uniform made vital contributions this week in wins at Hart and Cerritos, it was sophomore Audrey Chen that led the way.
Ryan Riddle and Chen had a team-high 12 points apiece in Wednesday’s six-point victory at Hart in the semifinal round.
Three days later, and Chen scored a game-high 17 points in the title-clinching 12-point victory over the Dons.
Up next: La Salle will get their CIF State playoff first round opponent shortly.
