Girls Soccer:

No biggie.

Marshall Fundamental won their 17th consecutive game on Saturday.

And it just happened to be in the CIF-SS Division 5 championship game at PCC.

The Eagles defeated Hemet, 4-3, in an overtime thriller.

It was the Bulldogs first loss since Jan 14.

Hemet’s Helen Elizalde scored twice in the first half to give the Bulldogs leads of 1-0 and 2-1.

Marshall’s stud, Brianna Marquez got the girls from Pasadena to within 2-1.

And Esmeralda Jacquez would even the score at 2-2 when she found the back of the net with 7:31 to go in the first half.

Angely Puga would give the Eagles their first lead of the game with her second-half goal.

Hemet’s Presley Searl scored to catch Marshall at 3-3, and force overtime.

At 7:58 into OT, Marquez took a shot that went off the shoulder of Puga and into the goal for the championship-clinching goal.

With the offensive heroics over this title run by Skyler Atacador, Marquez, Puga and others, one girl hasn’t got all the credit she so rightfully deserves.

And her name in Kaiya Jota.

Jota had seven saves in goal on Saturday.

Just as important, though, Jota shut out Windward, Covina, Palm Springs and Viewpoint just to get to the championship game.

Up next: Marshall will await their first-round opponent in the CIF State playoffs.
