Baseball:

Luke Mistone entered the 2022 baseball season as one of the SGV area’s most elite pitchers.

And while the Bonita senior is off to a great start on the mound, it’s the damage Mistone is doing with a bat in his hands that makes him a dual threat.

On Saturday, Mistone went the distance in a 5-1 victory over previously unbeaten Maranatha.

Mistone surrendered a solo home run to Dylan Zdunek in the top of the seventh, but that was it for the MHS offense.

Mistone allowed two hits, walked one and struck out nine during his 83-pitch outing.

Cam Andrews had Maranatha’s other hit.

Mikey Ebner got the loss after allowing three runs on five hits over his four innings of work.

He walked two and fanned a pair of Bonita batters.

Mistone hit a solo shot and scored twice.

In the first four games of his senior season, Mistone has won two games on the mound, hit two home runs and has a double and three RBIs.

Bryan Bradshaw singled and scored, and Garrett Patterson singled twice and scored.

JT Fenton walked, scored and had two RBIs.

Fenton and Diego Vazquez had sac fly RBIs in Saturday’s win.

Up next: Bonita and Maranatha will be back in tournament play on Wednesday.
