Centennial Dominates Damien, 71-48, in Battle of State’s No. 1 & No. 4 Programs; Huskies Improve to 2-0 in CIF-SS Open Division Pool Play

Boys Basketball:

Centennial Corona proved yet again why Josh Giles’ program is the top-ranked program in California.

The Huskies comfortably defeated the state’s No. 4 team, 71-48, in Tuesday’s second round of (CIF-SS Open Division) pool play.

The boys from Corona took a 37-19 lead into the half, and never let Damien get into striking distance.

Centennial’s Donovan Dent led all scorers with 18 points.

Devin Williams and Jared McCain both contributed 17 points apiece for the Huskies.

Williams hit a team-high three 3-pointers.

Kaleb Smith led the Spartans with 17 points.

Smith had five 3-pointers, and scored 12 of Damien’s 17 fourth-quarter points.

Spivey Word finished with 11 points and Jimmy Oladokun chipped in with 10 points for Damien.

Josh Giles played for and coached under his Tuesday night counterpart, Mike LeDuc, while at Glendora.

LeDuc surpassed 1,000 wins in his Hall of Fame-caliber career back on December 22nd.

Up next: Damien will host Bishop Montgomery on Friday and Centennial will host Crean Lutheran, as pool play resumes.
