Girls Basketball:

The 2021-22 season couldn’t have been more frustrating for Flintridge Prep coaches, Kevin Kiyomura and Jayme Chan.

And it isn’t because the Wolves 72-game Prep League win streak was snapped by Providence, or the fact that Flintridge Prep didn’t claim a league championship for the first time since the 2012-2013 season.

Chan and Kiyomura’s program was ravaged by season-ending injuries to three of its leading scorers, and COVID-19 presented a massive roadblock as well.

It was almost impossible to maintain momentum when they almost never had more than seven girls dress.

After saying all that, neither the players or coaches would make excuses, because they know all teams have to persevere through injuries and all sorts of drama.

Ashley Chea put the Wolves on their collective back and Saturday night was no different.

Chea scored a game-high 31 points in a 73-40, season-ending defeat at Burroughs in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 2AA playoffs.

The Bears took a 42-16 lead into the break and never let the Wolves a chance in the second half.

After Chea’s 31, the scoring dropped off significantly, as Maddi Huie had four points.

Noor Fahs led Burroughs with 23 points.
