Boys Athlete of the Week:
Anthony Troncoso had a remarkable week.
On Wednesday, Troncoso and the Northview wrestling team were battling Yucaipa for the CIF-SS Division 2 Team Dual Championship.
After getting out to a quick start, NHS led the Thunderbirds 25-0, but Yucaipa has clawed their way back to get to within 25-23 with four matches remaining.
Troncoso dashed any Yucaipa hopes of taking the lead or defeating the Vikings, as he pinned Caleb Floyd in just over one minute.
Northview would win three of those final four matches (Marcus Tolentino at 106 pounds & Adrian Limon at 120), and they went on to win the D-2 championship.
On Saturday, to cap the week, Troncoso won the heavyweight division at the Valle Vista League finals.
NHS won an incredible 11-of-14 titles, which included Marcus Tolentino (106), Nicolas Arellano (113), Adrian Limon (120), Mario Sandoval (126), Julian Leon (132) Jacob Leon (138), Jacob Salcedo (145), Sonny Acuna (152), Nate Cruz (160), Lewis Madrigal (170) and Troncoso.
Up next: The Valle Vista League from Saturday will compete at this coming weekend’s CIF-SS Individuals.
