Damien Wins St. John Bosco Tournament by Defeating SJB, 67-47, on Saturday; RJ Smith Scores 22 Points & Named Tourney MVP

Damien’s impressive start to the 2021-22 season keeps getting better.

The Spartans won the St. John Bosco Tournament by defeating the host Braves, 67-47, on Saturday night.

After the Braves took a 13-12 lead into the second quarter, Damien would outscore SJB, 55-34, the rest of the way.

RJ Smith had a game-high 22 points and earned the tournament MVP.

Spivey Word finished with 19 points and Jimmy Oladokun chipped in 16 points for the 12-0 Spartans.

Kade Bonam led SJB with 19 points, Ian Cook had nine and Elzie Harrington contributed seven for the Braves.

Kaleb Smith joined fellow Spartans, Oladokun and Spivey Word on the all-tournament team.

Smith had six points in Saturday night’s victory.

Up next: The Spartans won’t be in action until Dec. 21, when they host Temecula Valley.
