What a great way to start the 2021-22 season.
Damien went 5-0 this week, and won the Sunny Hills Basketball Tournament, thanks to Saturday’s 55-52 victory over Riverside Poly.
The Spartans offense was led by Kaleb Smith’s 15 points in the title game.
Smith had three 3-point baskets in the first quarter.
Bradley Xie scored 13 points in the win, and Spivey Word had 12.
Riverside Poly’s Brayden Burries had a game-high 20 points.
Chance Stephens chipped in with 13 points for the Bears.
RJ Smith finished with eight points and earned the tournament’s MVP.
Aside from going 5-0 this week, Damien also handed quality programs like Orange Lutheran and Riverside Poly their first loss of the season.
