Spivey Word opened his senior season in solid form.
Word scored a game-high 21 points in Damien’s 64-44 victory over Kennedy in the first round of the Sunny Hills Tournament.
The Spartans (1-0) led by 14 points after the first quarter and had a 22-point advantage at the break.
Kaleb Smith scored 13 points in the win and RJ Smith added 12 for the Spartans.
Jimmy Oladokun finished with 10 points in the season opener.
