Football:
Talk about your diametrically opposed offensive approaches.
Rio Hondo Prep is all about the running game, and Campbell Hall does much of its damage in the air.
On Friday night, and in a battle of unbeatens, both programs had success doing their thing.
The difference, though, was Campbell Hall’s ability to turn a pair of Rio Hondo Prep turnovers in the second quarter into 14 points.
And the Vikings would edge the Kares, 34-27, to open Gold Coast League play.
Campbell Hall quarterback Isaiah Sepand completed 18 of 27 passes for 345 yards and three scores.
Sepand threw a 4-yard score to Zach Plotkin, an 18-yard strike to Kian Salehi, and his 35-yard hookup with Chris Hammond extended the Vikings lead to 34-21.
Campbell Hall had a 345-38 advantage through the air.
David O’Mara scored on a pair of 2-yard TD runs for the Vikings.
RHP out-rushed Campbell Hall by a margin of 275 yards to minus-12.
Jonathan Guerrero had a monster game for the Kares.
Guerrero rushed for 195 yards on 27 carries.
The RHP senior scored on TD runs of 3, 1 and 2 yards, and Guerrero caught a 28-yard TD pass from Damyan Diaz.
Gio Ortega rushed for 64 yards on six carries.
Up next: RHP will travel to Brentwood next Friday.
The Eagles (3-4) had their bye week.
