Linfield Christian Cancels Friday’s Game w/Rio Hondo Prep; Kares Quickly Schedule Replacement for Thursday at Verdugo Hills

Football:

When Rio Hondo Prep football coach Mark Carson got to school on Wednesday morning, he and his program were set to play at Linfield Christian on Friday night.

At approximately 10 a.m., however, they received a call from the Linfield Christian athletic director and got the bad news.

The RHP-LC game had to be postponed until September 25th, because of a Covid-related issue at their school.

Carson said the Kares players didn’t find out the game was off until their 2:15 weight room training session.

Understandably, the boys were upset, but they also knew the RHP officials were burning up the phone and trying to find a late-week replacement game.

But the odds were certainly stacked against them.

And regardless if they played this week, RHP was still going to hold their 6:15 p.m. practice.

At about 4 p.m., and after approximately four hours of trying, Rio Hondo Prep worked out a game for tomorrow night (Thursday) at Verdugo Hills.

The Kares and Dons exchanged film a couple hours later and they’ll meet up in Tujunga for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Verdugo Hills opened their season last Friday and dropped a 28-8 decision to Chatsworth.

RHP is 1-0 after dismantling Pasadena Poly, 49-0.

Quotable:

RHP coach, Mark Carson: “It was a four-hour ordeal of calls, emails and direct messages on Twitter. We looked on MaxPreps for schools with openings as well on the CIF games wanted web site. We probably had a dozen no’s before Verdugo Hills contacted me around 3:30 today, by 4:00 we had the game locked in. Their AD and coach were easy to work with and our principal Dr. Johnson wanted to make the game happen so thankfully it got done. I’m happy for our guys that they get a game this week.”
