Football:
The Rand Holdren era got off to a very solid start on Friday night.
Maranatha traveled to Beverly Hills and came home with a 38-0, season-opening victory.
Myles O’Malley opened his high school career in a huge way.
O’Malley carried the ball 15 times for 261 yards and the freshman scored three TD’s.
Connor Patterson completed 6 of his 8 pass attempts for 55 yards.
Senior running back JoJo Ingram gained 71 yards on four carries and scored a pair of TD’s.
Carter Shupper caught two passes for 20 yards.
Freshman kicker Owen Meleka booted a 30-yard field goal and converted all five of his extra-point attempts.
The defensive leaders included: Taylor Patterson (five tackles), DeJohn Jones (four tackles), Cam Jones (four tackles and a sack) and Joe Kazarian (four tackles and two fumble recoveries).
Sam Funchess and Jacob Neely picked off one pass each and Garrett Beagle recovered a fumble.
Up next: Maranatha will host Verbum Dei on Friday at 7.
The Eagles (2-0) are coming off an 18-14 victory over Morningside.
