Football:
Rio Hondo Prep dropped the hammer on rival Pasadena Poly on Friday.
The Kares had a 370-157 advantage in total yards and crushed the Panthers, 49-0.
Jonathan Guerrero led all rushers with 141 yards on 10 carries.
Guerrero scored on TD runs of 26 and 14 yards.
Gio Ortega scored three TD’s in the win and gained 97 yards on just five carries.
Ortega had TD runs of 12 and 35 yards.
He also returned a kick 90 yards for another score.
Ryan McCulloch had 49 yards rushing on eight carries.
Calvin Johnson caught a 15-yard TD from Damyan Diaz, and Aaron Saiz capped the Kares scoring with a five-yard TD run with just under four minutes to play in the third quarter.
Colin Mathews completed five of his 16 pass attempts for the Panthers for 33 yards and was picked once.
Pierre Vincent led Poly’s ground game with 46 yards on three carries.
Aaron Saiz also picked off a pass on defense.
Up next: Rio Hondo Prep will travel to Temecula next Friday to battle Linfield Christian.
