Carlos Hernandez and the Monrovia High School football program trailed visiting West Covina by 13 points at the half in Friday’s season opener.
The Wildcats, however, rallied for a 28-26 victory.
And the Monrovia junior played a huge role in the win.
Hernandez had eight receptions for 196 yards and two TD’s.
Noah Rodriguez hit Hernandez on a 65-yard TD to get Monrovia on the scoreboard.
And a 64-yard, Rodriguez to Hernandez connection, gave the Wildcats their first lead of the game, at 20-19.
Up next: Monrovia will travel to Arcadia on Friday night.
The Apaches defeated Marina, 43-25, in their season opener.
