Boys Basketball:
It’s not easy to win a basketball game when 80-percent of your starters foul out.
And it’s even more difficult when your opposition has everyone at their disposal.
But that’s what Glendora was faced with in Thursday night’s second round of the CIF-State Division 3A playoffs.
The Tartans led by 14 points in the second half, only to see Shalhevet claim a 67-65 victory in overtime.
Avi Halpert led the Firehawks with 25 points and Ze’ev Remer added 21 in the win.
Glendora’s Luke Jacobson led all scorers with 27 points and Noah Smith had 16 for the CIF-SS Division 3A champions.
It might not have ended the way they wanted, but this 2021 program claimed the school’s first CIF crown in 20 years and they have Smith, Jacobson, Wooldridge and others coming back from their senior season.
Quotable:
Glendora coach, Gordon Hamlow: “What a great year these kids were able to achieve in the most unique circumstances of our lifetime. I am so proud of the hard work each put in to making such a special run. We fought to the end in the same fashion we have all year. Tough defense & unselfish play, as evidenced by the 21 assists dished out tonight.”
