To be in a position to help their program win a championship.
And that was exactly the opportunity that Ayala senior Emma Lazaro had on Thursday night.
Trailing late in their CIF-SS Division 3A title game against visiting San Dimas, Lazaro hit a 3-point shot with 30 seconds to play to pull even with the Saints.
With just under two seconds remaining on the clock, Lazaro hit a game-winning 3-pointer.
And it secured a 57-54 victory over San Dimas to claim a CIF championship.
Up next: Both the Bulldogs and Saints will await their CIF-State first-round opponent and location.
The state tournament begins on Tuesday.
