Baseball:
At first glance, there is nothing physically imposing about Monrovia senior Coleman Mitchell.
He’s about 5-foot-10 and 165 pounds.
But this kid continues to take over games on the mound and even does his part at the plate.
In Friday’s 7-0 victory over visiting Alhambra in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs, Mitchell was nails.
He allowed just two hits, didn’t walk a batter and struck out 10, including the game’s final out.
Mitchell also singled twice, stole a base and scored two runs.
Nate Thompson went 2-for-4, with a double, stolen base, RBI and run scored.
Sebastian Sanchez singled, had a sac fly and three RBIs.
Luke Chiovare singled, was hit by pitch and scored.
Anthony Chiovare singled and scored.
Matthew Delgado walked, was hit by pitch twice and scored.
Up next: Monrovia will host Grace Brethren on Tuesday at 3:15.
The Lancers (16-5) hammered Village Christian, 16-1, in their first-round game.
Just below are interviews with Coach Blackmore, as well as Thompson & Mitchell.
