Friday was senior day at Rio Hondo. Kares senior, Kaitlynn Key, made the best of it by going 2-for-3 and collecting 2 of the team’s 6 hits as the Kares finished the regular season by beating Garey 1-0.
But the day belonged to junior pitcher, Tatiana Foor, who delivered a no-hitter and struck out 5 Viking batters and only surrendering 2 walks. Foor finished the regular season with a record of 13-3 and an ERA of 1.82. Foor also went 1-for-2 at the plate including a walk.
The Kares broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning. Raychel Chang reached base on an infield single and came around to score on a triple by Grace Pollock.
Avery Pollock collected the remaining Kares hit.
Garey (8-8) pitcher, Natalie Contreras, went the distance for the Vikings in the losing effort giving up six hits; walking one; and striking out seven.
Rio Hondo finishes the regular season with an overall record of 15-3, best in school history.
RHP’s historic season continues next week when the Kares begin its playoff run in Division 6.
