Baseball:
With two games to play and a two-game lead over second-place La Canada atop the Rio Hondo League standings, Monrovia knew they were going to win an outright league championship.
But they didn’t want any more drama, so they took out Temple City, 10-0, in a six-inning, mercy-rule victory on Tuesday.
Coleman Mitchell improved to 8-0 after going five scoreless innings to earn the win.
Mitchell scattered three hits, didn’t walk anyone and struck out five.
Matthew Delgado went 3-for-4, with an RBI and two runs scored.
Nathan Thompson singled three times, scored and drove in a run.
Mitchell helped his own effort, going 2-for-3 at the plate and scoring a run.
Anthony Chiovare walked and had an RBI double.
Luke Chiovare also doubled, drove in a pair of runs and scored.
The Wildcats pounded out 17 hits on Tuesday.
Up next: Temple City will host Monrovia on Friday to close out the regular season schedule for both programs.
First pitch is slated for 3:30.
