With three Palomares League games to play and still eyeing a hopeful playoff berth, the Glendora baseball team needed a spark.
Through the first six innings of Thursday’s nonleague showdown with Downey, the visiting Vikings held a 4-0 lead.
But GHS erupted for five seventh-inning runs and claimed a 5-4 victory.
Alonso Gomez was stuck with the loss.
In 1/3 of an inning, he was charged with five runs on four hits.
Johnnie Valdez had a three-run double in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 4-4.
Carson Collett would drive in the game winner on an infield single.
Matt Gonzales not only picked up his first career win on the mound, he singled, scored and had an RBI in the seventh.
Collett was 2-for-4 on Thursday and Carson Mounce singled and scored.
Troy Estrada singled twice and scored and Rodrigo Casasola doubled and scored.
Gonzales went the final 2 1/3 scoreless innings and allowed just one hit, didn’t walk anyone and struck out four Downey batters.
Jesus Wilkins singled and drove in a pair of runs for the Vikings.
David Reyes walked, singled twice, scored and had an RBI.
Julian Ruelas had an RBI base hit in the loss.
Jayson Gadd doubled and scored.
