On Thursday afternoon, Chino Hills took a three-run lead into the bottom of the seventh inning at Damien.
The Huskies were three outs away from taking a one-game lead over the Spartans with four to go.
Instead, Damien rallied for four seventh-inning runs to defeat Chino Hills, 5-4.
The Spartans now sit alone atop the Baseline League standings.
Dylan Alanis went the distance to earn the win.
Alanis allowed five runs (three earned) on 10 hits.
He walked one and struck out five CHHS batters.
Cole Howarth singled, homered and drove in two runs.
Ian Bateman singled, doubled and had an RBI.
Luke Strong singled and scored.
Two days after being shut out by the duo of Zach Hart and Braden Hoffmeyer, the Spartans got two runs on six hits off Hart and four more against Hofmeyer.
Hart went 3 2/3 innings and struck out four, while Hofmeyer went 1 2/3 innings and was stuck with the loss.
Ivan Aguirre singled, doubled, scored and had two RBIs.
Robby Mansour went 2-for-3 and scored twice.
JD Dunn singled and drove in a pair of runs.
Joel Porter singled twice and had an RBI.
Sebastian Arguelles singled, scored and had an RBI, and Matt Clark singled twice and scored.
Up next: Damien will head over to Chino Hills today (Friday) to finish their three-game series with the Huskies.
