Azusa Wins First Montview League Title in 14 Years; Aztecs Get 2-Game Sweep of Second-Place Sierra Vista, 8-3

Azusa didn’t just claim its first Montview League championship in 14 years, they dominated their way to the title.

After Thursday’s 8-3 victory at second-place Sierra Vista, the Aztecs secured the two-game sweep of the Dons.

Azusa is now 8-0 in league and they’ve defeated their counterparts by a combined margin of 93-6.

Iliana Cardenas went the distance, allowing just one earned run on five hits.

She walked four and struck out eight Sierra Vista batters.

Natalie Garcia singled twice and drove in a run for the Dons.

Sophia Pedroza was saddled with the loss after surrendering six runs (four earned) on four hits over two innings of work.

She walked four and didn’t strike anyone out.

Angelian Correos singled and drove in two runs.

Raelene Rodriguez walked, singled twice and scored.

Alyssa Ceballos singled, doubled, scored and had two RBIs.

Natalie Sosa walked, singled and scored a pair of runs.

Breanna Rodriguez went 2-for-3, with a walk, run scored and two RBIs.

Gwendalyn Rivas had an RBI, Mia Pedroza scored two runs and Juliana Canizales walked and singled in the win.

Alexandra Caballero scored once for the Aztecs.
