Softball:
Whoa!
In a game that will likely determine the Palomares League championship, Ayala claimed a 2-0 victory in 14 innings at Glendora High School.
But that’s just the beginning of the craziness on Wednesday.
Ayala ace Emily Leavitt went all 14 innings, scattered five hits, didn’t walk anyone and struck out 31 batters.
To put that in its proper perspective, Leavitt struck out all nine batters at least twice each.
She got four GHS hitters on strikes four times and even fanned one Tartan five times in an historic outing.
It took Leavitt 199 pitches to close the door on a 2-0 victory, which gives the Bulldogs a 1.5 game lead in the Palomares League standings.
Ashley Hibbard singled twice, and Mackenna Coleman, Ashley Waite and Hannah Beyer had one single apiece for GHS.
Hibbard and Marissa Duarte combined to go 9 1/3 scoreless innings in the circle for the Tartans.
Bridget Nemeth went the final 4 2/3 innings, allowing a pair of unearned runs on five hits.
She walked three and struck out one.
Tehya Banks went 2-for-7 and scored a run in the top of the 14th inning.
Allyssa Alano walked and scored the other run.
Marissa Hassis had two hits, and Madison Zaro walked and singled three times apiece for Ayala.
