Baseball:
Adrian Martinez hit a solo shot in the bottom of the first inning to give Los Altos a 1-0 lead over their visitors from Glendora.
But after that, Josh VerKuilen, Donovann Jackson and Michael Moses shut the Conquerors offense down in a 6-1 victory.
VerKuilen went five innings to get the win, allowing the one run on four hits.
He didn’t walk anyone and struck out two.
Jackson and Moses would contribute one perfect inning of relief in the win.
Joseph Rangel was stuck with the loss after surrendering five runs (one earned) on eight hits.
He walked one and struck out one Tartans’ batter.
Carson Collett singled and drove in a pair of runs.
Johnnie Valdez walked twice, singled and scored two runs.
Matt Gonzalez singled twice and scored from the leadoff spot.
Braydon Wooldridge doubled, scored and had two RBIs.
Jeff Isenhart had an RBI double.
Shane Mion singled, doubled and drove in a run.
Charles Peralta singled and scored twice.
Up next: Glendora travels to Claremont on Wednesday, hosts Downey on Wednesday and then finish off a two-game series with the Wolfpack on Friday at GHS.
No disrespect to Downey, but Glendora has four games that will determine whether they make the playoffs or not.
The Tartans trail Claremont and Alta Loma by one game for the Palomares League’s third spot and they have both the Wolfpack and Braves ahead of them over the final two weeks.
