Softball:
If Nogales was hoping to upset the Montview League’s leading program on Thursday, Azusa ruined those thoughts in the top of the first innings.
The Apaches got eight runs before the Nobles were able to grab their bats, and cruised to a 12-1 victory in five innings.
Iliana Cardenas got the win, going all five innings and allowed one run on six hits.
She walked one and fanned five Nogales batters.
Micah Ibarra was saddled with the loss.
Ibarra surrendered 12 runs (nine earned) on 15 hits.
She walked two and struck out a pair of Aztecs’ batters.
Angelian Correos doubled twice, scored and drove in three runs.
Juliana Canizales walked, singled three times, scored twice and had two RBIs.
Cardenas singled twice and Raelene Rodriguez went 2-for-3, with an RBI and run scored.
Mia Pedroza walked, tripled, scored twice and had an RBI.
Alyssa Ceballos singled, scored and drove in a run.
Breanna Rodriguez went 3-for-3, with two runs and three RBIs.
Natalie Sosa had an RBI base hit and Alexandra Caballero scored a pair of runs.
Up next: Azusa will host Gladstone on Tuesday afternoon.
And the Aztecs could wrap up a Montview League title with a win at Sierra Vista one week from today.
