Baseball:
After rallying for three runs in the bottom of the seventh on Friday to defeat Whittier Christian, Maranatha wasn’t going to waste any time on Saturday.
The Minutemen got four runs in the first inning and cruised to a 12-3 victory at Mayfair High School in Lakewood.
Daniel Ruiz got the win after going four innings and allowing two runs on three hits.
He walked seven and struck out three Monsoons’ batters.
Gil Sanchez went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Damien Rodriguez doubled and scored for Mayfair.
Cooper Boyd was stuck with the loss after surrendering nine runs (seven earned) on eight hits and three walks in three innings of work.
Donovan Gonsal had a huge day, going 3-for-5, with a walk, three singles, two runs scored and five RBIs.
Ben Staub doubled, tripled and scored three runs.
Ryan Mittelman had an RBI double and Mikey Ebner singled and drove in two runs.
Isaac Ton walked, singled twice and scored a pair of runs.
Kade Bowden and Jackson Hisey both walked and had one RBI apiece.
Maranatha has now won 10 consecutive games.
Up next: MHS will host Cerritos Valley Christian on Tuesday at 5 in the first of two Olympic League games this week with the Defenders (10-4, 2-1)
