Glendora didn’t start Friday’s Palomares League opener at Bonita too strong.

But they sure finished it that way.

GHS went on a 20-12 run and escaped with a 63-57 victory over a tough and well-coached Bonita program.

Austin Clark led the way with 21 points, five steals and four assists.

But it was Clark’s 15-of-18 effort from the free-throw line that was crucial.

Xavier Madison led the Bearcats with 17 points.

Matt Smith contributed 15 points and Michael Horne added 10 for Bonita.

Luke Jacobson contributed 13 points and seven rebounds and Braydon Wooldridge finished with 12 points and seven boards.

Up next: Bonita travels to Colony and Glendora visits Ayala.

Both games are set for Tuesday night at 6:30.

Quotable:

GHS coach, Gordon Hamlow: “I thought our defense and rebounding in the fourth quarter was crucial. After we managed take the lead late, our free-throw shooting really came through. Every win in league is big, but to win at Bonita is always a tough place to get a victory, so I am really proud of the resiliency our guys showed tonight.”
