Boys Athlete of the Week:

The last year-plus has been the most trying of times for the Farrar family.

Their patriarch, Big Lou Farrar, who led the Chargers program for 50 years and to five CIF-SS titles, passed away after a valiant battle with cancer.

Lou’s son, assistant coach, and next door neighbor, Dominic Farrar, continued his duties as the school’s athletic director, but also took over his father’s football program.

And with COVID-19 and all the other drama, Dominic has been pulled in every direction imaginable.

When it finally came time to play football during the 2021 spring season, the Chargers dropped consecutive games to Ayala (35-14) and Bonita (15-14).

While an 0-2 start doesn’t sound great, keep in mind that Charter Oak gave Ayala its closest game of the season, and consider that the Bulldogs faced Glendora, Chino Hills, Bonita and Temescal Canyon during this spring season.

Now, fast forward to April 16th, and Lou’s grandson, Vincent Farrar, led the Chargers to a 42-13 victory over South Hills.

Vincent Farrar completed 18 of 24 passes for 261 yards and four TD’s.

Gabriel Valenzuela caught five passes for 112 yards and two scores, Sam Mason had seven receptions for 67 yards and a TD, and Nathan Alvarado tallied four receptions for 65 yards and a TD.

The San Gabriel Valley, especially the football world is a very competitive place, but anyone with a soul has to be thrilled for the Farrar family, not just for ending the season on a high note, but because Vincent made his grandfather smile with pride from Heaven.

2021 Spring Season Schedule:
4/2: Ayala 35, Charter Oak 14
4/9: Bonita 15, Charter Oak 14
4/16: Charter Oak 42, South Hills 13
