On Thursday morning, Loyola won its third game in three days.
And perhaps the only thing as satisfying as the wins for Cubs coach Sean Buller, is the fact that his pitching staff has surrendered just two runs over the past 21 innings.
This time, it was Joey Frey and Tino Valdez that teamed up to shut down an opposing offense.
Frey went five innings and allowed just a third-inning solo home run to Chase Call in Loyola’s 2-1 victory over Calabasas.
Frey scattered three hits, walked three and struck out six to earn the victory.
Tino Valdez shut the door on the Coyotes with two scoreless and hitless innings of relief.
Valdez walked one and struck out two to secure the save.
Cooper Bobbit was sliced for two runs on three hits over his 1 1/3 inning outing.
Bobbit walked one and struck out a pair.
Peter Lynch went the other 4 2/3 innings for the Coyotes, and he didn’t allow a run and struck out five.
Valdez also did his part at the plate, going 2-for-3, scoring once and driving in a run.
David Case singled twice and scored.
Kyle Hampton (pictured above) singled twice.
Tomas Lutz had an RBI base hit in the win.
