Football:

The stage is set.

Glendora did its part Friday to set up an enormous showdown next week at Ayala in a battle of unbeatens.

The Tartans went out to Ontario and dominated Colony, 33-7.

GHS scored the game’s first 33 points before Colony got a 68-yard TD pass from Will Yates to Antoine Jones in the fourth quarter.

Noah Acuna had 2-and-40 yard TD runs in the first half and Jack Norell’s 28-yard field goal gave the Tartans a 17-0 lead at the break.

JT Greep caught a 2-yard scoring strike from sophomore Jake Denerson and Braydon Brus rumbled in from nine yards out to extend the GHS advantage to 31-0.

Acuna carried the ball 17 times for 90 yards.

Brus caught three passes for 90 yards and rushed for 69 yards on 11 carries.

Denerson finished 5-of-13 for 117 yards and one TD.

JoJo Najarro got two carries for 36 yards in the win.

Ayala defeated visiting Charter Oak, 35-14, in their Friday night contest.

Last season, as co-members of the Palomares League, it was a home loss to the Bulldogs that cost the Tartans a championship.

And while GHS and AHS are now in separate leagues for football, don’t think it won’t have the intensity of a title game when Glendora heads to Chino Hills to battle Ayala.
