Apparently the Ayala High School baseball program missed the memo that said it would take a while to get an offense clicking on all cylinders after being out of action for more than a year.
With Thursday’s 13-3 beatdown of Downey, the Bulldogs are now 2-0, and have outscored their opponents by a combined margin of 25-6.
Ayala got some good pitching and even better production with their bats, out-hitting Downey, 15-5.
Thomas Cerecedes got the win after four innings of work, and allowing just an unearned run on four hits.
He didn’t walk a batter and struck out four.
Jayson Gadd singled and doubled for the Vikings.
Jair Quiroz walked, singled and scored a pair of runs.
Chris Contreras was saddled with the loss.
Contreras surrendered three runs on five hits over just 1 2/3 innings of work.
Alonso Gomez was charged with nine runs on six hits over his 1 2/3 innings, but only two were earned.
Jacob Badawi, before heading to La Verne to scored a TD in a 27-0 football win over Bonita, went 4-for-4 on Thursday.
Badawi walked, doubled twice, scored two runs and finished with two RBIs.
Cole Koniarsky homered and drove in three runs.
Troy McCain singled, doubled, scored twice and had an RBI.
Marcus Galvan walked, singled, tripled, scored and drove in a pair of runs.
