After a season-opening loss to La Habra, Maranatha has bounced back with two convincing victories.

The Minutemen have outscored their last two opponents (Excelsior Charter & Upland) by a combined margin of 31-9.

On Wednesday night, MHS cruised to an 8-2 victory over the Highlanders.

Daniel Ruiz picked up the win for the Minutemen.

Ruiz went five innings, allowing just a pair of unearned runs on six hits.

He walked one and fanned three.

Patrick DeMarco and Garrett McGuigan gave Coach Matt Shupper one perfect inning of relief apiece to close out the win.

Cam Andrews had a big day at the plate.

Andrews singled, doubled and drove in four runs.

Nick Cook singled, scored and had an RBI.

McGuigan singled and scored.

Will Allen walked and scored and Isaac Ton walked twice and scored a pair of runs.

Up next: Maranatha will host Buena Park on Friday at 5 at Brookside Park.

Quotable:

Maranatha coach, Matt Shupper: “Total team win tonight. Upland has a lot of solid hitters and has momentum coming into the game, but our guys played a very fundamental game with excellent pitching from Daniel Ruiz. Cam Andrews started hitting and is in a better place offensively now. We have a few guys we are trying to get on track at the plate, when they do our offense will be in a place to put more pressure on the other teams pitchers.
