Bonita improved to 2-0 after a 6-3 victory over Loyola on Monday.
And that was made possible by starting pitcher Matthew Bustos and a Bearcats offense that out-hit the Cubs, 9-2.
Joey Frey was stuck with the loss.
Frey went five innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out four.
Bonita would go on to get two runs apiece off a pair of Cubs’ relievers.
Edrain Rangel homered and drove in a pair of runs.
Logan Corthell collected a pair of singles and RBIs.
JT Fenton doubled and scored in the win.
Aiden Caron and Gavin Vazquez each singled and scored.
Garrett Patterson went 2-for-3, with a pair of singles.
Matthew Bustos earned the win after five scoreless and hitless innings.
He struck out four and didn’t walk a batter.
After Jacob Truex allowed three runs on two hits over his 1 1/3 innings of work, Seth Wrightstone came on to close out the Cubs, while earning the save.
Luca DiPaolo’s three-run shot in the bottom of the seventh accounted for the Loyola offense.
