Abraham Zapata’s 2-Run Homer in Sixth Inning Leads Etiwanda to 6-5 Victory at San Dimas; Eagles Trailed 4-0 Before Mounting Comeback

Etiwanda got off to a slow start in the 2021 season opener at San Dimas.

The Eagles trailed 4-0, but they rallied for four runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth to outlast the Saints, 6-5, on Friday afternoon.

Abraham Zapata played the hero with a two-run shot in the top of the sixth inning to give Etiwanda its first lead of the game.

Zapata finished 2-for-3, with a double, the home run, two runs scored and a pair of RBIs.

Jack Holman walked, doubled and drove in two runs, and Geo Mejia had an RBI double in the win.

Austen Roellig doubled and scored, and Yahir Ramirez scored twice for the Eagles.

Matthew Romero went the first five innings for San Dimas, allowing five runs on six hits.

He walked one and struck out five Etiwanda batters.

Paul Vasquez was stuck with the loss, after allowing the two-run shot to Zapata in the sixth inning.

In all, Vasquez went two innings allowing one run on the one hit.

He didn’t walk a batter and struck out one.

Samuel Griffin started for Etiwanda and went the first 2 2/3 innings, surrendering four runs (three earned) on three hits.

Dylan Goff went the final 4 1/3 innings, allowing one run on five hits.

He walked one and fanned two San Dimas batters to earn the victory.

Ryan Kim went 2-for-4, including a solo shot in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull San Dimas to within 6-5.

Robert Castillo singled and scored.

Landon White singled twice and drove in one run, and Paul Vasquez walked and doubled.
