College Wrestling:

The chances of even an abbreviated high school wrestling season seems like a longshot.

But eight former Northview competitors will represent the program in the collegiate wrestling postseason.

Cal Poly SLO’s Trevor Tinker (197-pounds) and Cal State Bakersfield’s Eddie Flores (125) will compete at the Pac-12 finals in Corvallis, Oregon.

Tinker (2020 grad) and Flores (2018) hope to last the day-long event Sunday at Oregon State University.

Julia Padilla (143) and Angelina Gomez (101) both wrestle for Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Georgia.

The former Vikings’ duo will compete Saturday in the NCAA Division II Nationals at Tiffin College in Ohio.

Vanguard University, which took a 39-year absence from wrestling and was revived last season by former Northview great Caleb Flores, has three competitors at next weekend’s NAIA Nationals.

Nate Yanez (125), Gabriel Cortez (141) and Ricky Padilla (174) will represent the Lions in action on March 5-6.

Joining the Vanguard trio in Kansas is former Northview standout, Dominick Arellano.

Arellano (141) competes for Baker University (Baldwin City, Kansas).

The two-day event is being held at the Hartman Arena in Park City, Kansas

Quotable:

Northview coach, David Ochoa: “Through all of the adversity of this pandemic, we are all so proud of our former wrestlers for staying focused on the mat and in the classroom. They have all worked so hard to earn the success they are enjoying.”
